National Touch League 2014

The Sydney Scorpions have taken out the Golden Boot for the third year running claiming the Champion Permit through strong performances in a number of divisions.  The Senior Mixed team led by Craig Beacroft, Phil Jarrett and Katrina McIlwraith where just three minutes away from pulling off a major upset against the highly fancied South QueenslandSharks.  When the Sharks scored with minutes remaining it sent the game into a drop-off with the Scorpions having an opportunity to win it only for the Sharks to take their chance and snatch the title.  In the Men’s 40’s 2013 Senior Coach of the Year, Ian Kalms, added to his impressive NTL coaching CV with back to back title wins with Chris “Rowdy” Benfield named Player of the Final closely followed by Tony Elktachi and Shane Frederiksen.  In the Men’s 45’s division the Scorpions easily accounted for the Hornets in a 13-2 whitewash.  In the Men’s 55’s division Garry Simmons led the Scorpions to yet another title this time defeating the North Queensland Tropical Cyclones by two touchdowns.  Finally in the Women’s 40’s division the Hornets were too strong for the Scorpions taking the title by 6-1.
