Sydney Scorpions Code of Conduct aims to ensure our reputation, club culture, positive behaviours and attitudes are maintained both on and off the playing field whilst those involved understand their legal and ethical rights and responsibilities. This applies to all individuals involved with Sydney Scorpions including Players, Parents / Guardians and Officials. Before any player or official can represent Sydney Scorpions at any event they must agree electronically to this Code of Conduct.

PLAYERS

  1. Play by the rules of the game whilst always respecting match officials, opponents, your team mates and coaches
  2. Control any verbal abuse of officials and sledging players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable
  3. Accept personal responsibility to ensure you correctly qualify for the event you are taking part representing Sydney Scorpions
  4. Ensure you adhere to the event uniform requirements as set down by NSWTA and Touch Football Australia
  5. Care for and respect the facilities and equipment made available to you during training and events
  6. Act in a respectful manner at any Sydney Scorpions award functions whilst in appropriate dress code as directed by team management
  7. Be respectful to others on touch football related social media platforms
  8. Respect the rights and worth of others regardless of their age, race, gender, ability, cultural background, sexuality or religion
  9. Act with integrity and objectivity, and accept responsibility for your decisions and actions
  10. Respect Sydney Scorpions committee / administrators and all appointed officials to ensure requested information is provided in a timely manner.  This includes providing and adhering to the following:
    1. Financial payments including levies and actively communicating when due dates or levy amounts cannot be met
    2. Accommodation requirements
    3. Uniform and off-field apparel requirements
    4. Event registration requirements
    5. Any other requested information

OFFICIALS – COACHES, ASSISTANT COACHES, TEAM MANAGERS

  1. Place the safety and welfare of players above all else
  2. Be a positive role model in behaviour and personal appearance whilst ensuring your comments are positive and supportive
  3. Be impartial, consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions whilst avoiding situations which may lead to or be construed as a conflict of interest
  4. Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for the individuality of players
  5. Be respectful to others on touch football related social media platforms
  6. Do not tolerate abusive, bullying or threatening behaviour
  7. Accept responsibility to ensure your players correctly qualify for the event they are taking part representing Sydney Scorpions
  8. Ensure any team related social media groups (e.g. Facebook) are administered responsibly and only include those involved with Sydney Scorpions
  9. Act with integrity and objectivity, and accept responsibility for your decisions and actions
  10. Respect the rights and worth of others regardless of their age, race, gender, ability, cultural background, sexuality or religion

COMMITTEE MEMBERS / ADMINISTRATORS

  1. Provide opportunities for members to be involved in planning, leadership, evaluation and decision-making related to their activity
  2. Create pathways for members to participate not just as a player but also as a coach, referee, administrator, etc
  3. Ensure quality supervision and instruction for players
  4. Help coaches and officials highlight appropriate behaviour and skill development, and help to improve the standards of coaching and officiating
  5. Ensure that everyone involved in sport emphasises fair play, and not winning at all costs
  6. Do not tolerate abusive, bullying or threatening behaviour
  7. Act with integrity and objectivity, and accept responsibility for your decisions and actions
  8. Distribute a code of conduct to players, coaches, officials and parents/guardians and encourage it be followed
  9. Be impartial, consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions whilst avoiding situations which may lead to or be construed as a conflict of interest
  10. Respect the rights and worth of others regardless of their age, race, gender, ability, cultural background, sexuality or religion

PARENTS / GUARDIANS

  1. Don’t pressure your child in any way – know that this is their game not yours
  2. Refrain from the use of bad language, nor harass players, coaches, officials or other spectators
  3. Encourage your child to play within the rules and respect officials and coaches decisions – no matter what
  4. Teach your child to respect the efforts of their opponents
  5. Remember that children learn best by example so applaud good plays/performances by both your child’s team and their opponents
  6. Give positive comments that motivate and encourage continued effort
  7. Be grateful to coaches, officials and other volunteers who give their time to conduct the event for your child
  8. Do not criticise or ridicule your child’s performance after the game
  9. Respect the rights and worth of others regardless of their age, race, gender, ability, cultural background, sexuality or religion
  10. Adhere to the following helpful guidelines Play By The Rules “Let Kids Be Kids”
