All Sydney Scorpions Medal & Trophy Winners can be found below and additionally via Sydney Scorpions Almanac.
The Croft Medal is presented to our Best & Fairest Scorpions Medal winners from our senior teams competing at the National Touch League. This medal is named after Sydney Scorpions Life Member Gary Croft in recognition of his work for the Sydney Scorpions over many years. The Nolan Medal is presented to our Best & Fairest Scorpions Medal winners from each of the Sydney Scorpions junior teams competing at the NSWTA Junior Regionals & TFA National Youth Championships. This medal is named after Dave Nolan who was instrumental in starting Scorpions junior program.
The Boland Trophy is awarded to our Men’s & Women’s Open Scorpions Medal winners. Mark Boland first became involved with Touch Football when he was 13 years of age, eventually playing in 17 straight State Cups with his beloved Parramatta in which he won 12 titles. He represented NSW from 1985 to 1999 in Men’s Open and was captain of Sydney Scorpions Men’s Open team from 1996 – 1999. At this time Scorpions won the first 4 NTL titles in the Men’s Open division. He is the only player to have received a NSW Touch Association life membership whilst having his famous number eight playing shirt retired. Mark also played in four World Cup’s representing Australia between 1986-1999 – with a total of 37 appearances. Mark was inducted into the Touch Football Australia Hall of Fame in 2003.
The Eltakchi Medal for Mixed Open has been named in honour of arguably the best Mixed Open player to play the game, that being Scorpions Hall of Famer Tony Eltakchi.
Scorpions Regional Directors Award was introduced in 2014 and is known as the Brett Gillard Medal. Brett Gillard held the position of Regional Director from 2007 until 2015. Deservedly Brett received his Sydney Scorpions Life Membership 2011 and his strong leadership was part of the foundation that has delivered our great permit so much glory.
Scorpions Junior Recognition Award is awarded to Sydney Scorpions juniors who are playing in their final Junior Regional tournament Players that have excelled through junior levels at Scorpions and possibly even higher representative honours such as state and national. The Boys award is named the Sam Brisby Medal and the Girls the Sarah Peattie Medal – both outstanding players that came through the Scorpions junior ranks to go on to represent their state and country. Sam was selected in Scorpions junior teams from the age of 14, and at this time he was considered a fringe player. However only a few years later he went on to represent the Australian Men’s Open at just 17. He was instrumental in Scorpions winning the Men’s Open title in 2010. In summary he has won Youth & Open Trans-Tasman titles, two World Cups, has been an Australian Flag Bearer and Captain, and won multiple NSW Player of the Year and Player of the Series awards. Sarah made her Scorpions debut with the Girls 14’s winning that division and also making the NSWTA Merit Team. In 2009 she scored a unique double by taking out both the Girls 18’s and Women’s Opens Scorpions Medals in the same year. In 2011 Sarah captained her country to victory in the Youth Trans-Tasman series. She has represented both NSW and Australia at Women’s Open level and won a World Cup with the Australian Mixed Opens. In 2014 she was a valuable member of the NSW Scorpions Women’s Elite 8 undefeated champions and has represented Scorpions many times onwards.
In 2020 the All Abilities division joined the NTL with our Scorpions Medal named the Greg Brown Medal. This medal is in recognition of Greg Brown who has contributed hugely to the All Abilities touch football program and Scorpions teams – ensuring the divisions compete at the Vawdon Cup and NTL events.
The Cooper Medal was introduced in 2020 to recognise the outstanding contributions for players reaching 20 years of Scorpions service and is named after Heath Cooper who in 2022 has played 26 consecutive NTL events. The Kitchingham Medal was introduced in 2023 to recognise the outstanding contributions for officials reaching 10 years of Scorpions service and is named after Sydney Scorpions Life Member Tim Kitchinham.
