Junior Regional Preview – Boys 18’s Jesse Parker

With the 2016 NSWTA Junior Regionals now less than a week away all players will be starting to get extremely excited at making their journey to this year’s host town of Parkes. However for one player more than others this trip from Sydney to Parkes will mean so much more. Scorpions Boys 18’s Jesse Parker will be making his Scorpions debut at Parkes after representing the Parramatta Eels at this years Junior State Cup. Jesse was born and raised in Parkes where he attended Redbend Catholic College in nearby Forbes. Jesse received the Junior Sportsmen of the year two years running whilst also representing the school in athletics and captaining the school rugby league and touch teams.

“It’s most certainly a privilege to be part of the Sydney Scorpions, it’s a great touch football permit and has so much to offer. It’s also great to be playing alongside some of the boys that were part of the All Schools U/15’s team including Marley Simbolon, Luke Osborne and Ray Wehbe. These players are leaders of the team and I believe if they can take lead at Parkes we can go close to talking out the tournament” Jesse commented.  With all the success the Scorpions have had the Boys 18’s is a title that has eluded them.

Jesse was due to make his Scorpions debut at the recent TFA National Touch League in Coffs Harbour however injury prevented this. Scorps T-League coach Brad Curl was amazed at the sheer speed and x-factor quality Jesse bought the trial. “We were blown away at his attacking game and I remember the selectors all looking at each other saying what about this guy! It was a huge loss to lose Jesse for NTL but we were aware that the Junior Regionals were in his home town and we really didn’t want him to miss both tournaments through aggravating the injury further. Also what we saw in Jesse was a down to earth champion guy, so genuine and thankful for the opportunity to represent Sydney Scorpions – it was very pleasing. If the NRL don’t get him then an Elite 8 permit will”.

Jesse represented the Parkes Pumas touch club for seven years including Junior State Cup tournaments. In 2014 he shot to stardom via the NRL Footy Show where he won $20,000 via the A League of Their Own competition for an amazing individual try. Jesse moved to Sydney last year to take up an opportunity with the Parramatta Eels NRL club and he now attends Patrician Brothers College Blacktown undertaking his HSC.

Jesse added, “To have the competition in my home town of Parkes is something special as all of my family will be there. It will also be great to catch up with all of my family, as living away can get pretty hard at times but I couldn’t do it without Drew and Sonja Osborne (the parents of Travis and Luke Osborne) and my parents Terry and Dan Parker for allowing me to have this opportunity down in Sydney. I really appreciate everything everyone has done for me whilst being here and I cannot wait to run out at Parkes on the weekend”,  Jesse told us.

Good luck to the Boys 18’s and their coaching staff as well as Jesse and his family, we hope you enjoy this tournament on home turf.
