2011 X-Blades National Touch League 13.03.11
The NSW Scorpions have defeated the NSW Mets by one touchdown in a thrilling encounter in the Men’s Elite Eight final at Port Macquarie’s Regional Sports Stadium. In a match that saw several lead changes, the Mets hit back from a two touchdown deficit in the final minutes to level the game at six touchdowns a piece, before the Scorpions scored in the final minute to take a 7-6 win. Congratulations to Coach Terry Cooper and his team for a fantastic achievement. The Scorpions Nathan Wong was rewarded for his strong game, being named the Player of the Final. In the Women's Elite Eight division a young NSW Scorpions team had an excellent tournament making the semi-finals, going down to the eventual winners the NSW Mets. The overall Club Championship went to the Brisbane City Cobras who just managed to beat the Sydney Scorpions by a single point.

The Sydney Scorpions success of the past 12-18 months has been rewarded at the recent NSWTA Blues Awards evening. NSW Touch has almost 120,000 members and to be named in the top of your category, for the past 18 months, is a great achievement. The winners from the region can be found below.

The redevelopment of Parramatta Touch Association’s governance structure has seen an improvement in their operation and is surely the driving force behind the large advancement in this association. The club continues to be a major force in the representative ranks and through the constant growth in their highly successful junior competition, this will surly continue into the future.

KIM SOLMAN
Through Kim's short amount of time in this role she has shown enthusiasm, dedication and passion far beyond that of others. Kim’s innovation and influential input at all levels from park to rep has been instrumental in the clubs overall success in the past 18 months. Her involvement within her administration role has also enhanced and had significant impact on the park comp, particularly that of the school girls competition.
NSWTA SELECTOR OF THE YEAR
BARRY GIBSON
Barry is a quiet achiever of the selectors ranks using his knowledge and playing history to cast a critical eye over the players in the NSW 20’s program. His record of achievements and work ethic is something the NSW selectors panel are looking to replicate amongst all their selectors.
NSWTA JUNIOR COACH OF THE YEAR
DAVID NOLAN
Dave Nolan’s performances as a coach at the under 14’s and 16’s level make him an exciting prospect for future coaching honours. His temperament and technical ability has seen the players under his charge play a mature brand of touch well beyond their years. Dave’s dedication and protruding involvement within the game will certainly be embraced by others for years to come.
REGION OF THE YEAR
SYDNEY SCORPIONS
The Sydney Scorpions have really turned themselves around both on and off the field. They currently hold the National Opens, Seniors and Youth Championships as well as the championship region for the New South Wales Touch Football Under 14’s & 16’s Regionals. Off the field they have showed renewed vigour in all aspects in regional administration and management.
NSWTA JUNIOR MALE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
SAM BRISBY
Sam arrived as a player in 2009/10. His standout performances for Manly against much tougher oppositions in premier league have caught the eye of many a keen judge, including the Australian Selectors. This resulted in his debut for the Australian Men’s Open side against New Zealand in Auckland in 2010 as a 17 year old.
NSWTA MALE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
DYLAN HENNESSEY
Dylan backed up his player of the year award last year with a repeat performance this year. His eye catching play at both NTL’s as well as excellent performances during the State and Vawdon Cup’s has seen him secure his second player of the year in a very tight finish with three outstanding players who were also nominated in this category.
